Who supplies the Talisker Scotch Distillery with the bourbon barrels they use to age their scotch whiskey?
Question by Berniemacx: Who supplies the Talisker Scotch Distillery with the bourbon barrels they use to age their scotch whiskey?
I’m a big fan of Talisker scotch and I’d like to know more about what they put into the making of their scotch. My favorite bourbon is Makers Mark and I’ve heard that Laphroaig uses their barrels for aging their whiskey. It’s not a scotch I’ve tried but it’s made me more curious. It makes me wonder if there might be a correlation.

Some Scotch distilleries own the barrels and rent them out to the bourbon industry – I read a blurb about Glenmorangie working with Heaven Hill in one of Michael Jackson’s scotch guides. Glenmorangie actually owns the barrels, but they’re on loan to Heaven Hill for 4 years, then they are shipped to Scotland when emptied. I hadn’t heard about the Talisker/Maker’s Mark connection, but it wouldn’t surprise me a bit.

Jack daniels are the biggest supplier of casks to the scotch whisky trade followed closely by makers mark.

This was an interesting question…I ran it by my local party store owner/bar tender/liquor expert. I didn’t get a good answer though…all he knew was that Talisker used Oloroso sherry casks for their high end stuff. No info on who’s Bourbon barrels are being used on the island.
I’m going to keep my eye on this question, you have me intrigued. Hope someone finds the true answer and posts.
