Well thanks to your review i Just tried a dram , I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised. Def a little youthful but a decent dram for the price for sure. I’d like to find out if there is any consistancy in the bottling tho, as there are many saying it varies widely

You are not pronouncing “Islay” correctly!

haha! i know what you’re talking about, my wife does like it a lot but when i made my boss tast it (even though he’s a big fan of scotches too) he put that same face! and asked me how could i like that!, he said its a “barbecued” scotch haha!, i dont know, its not for everyone but i love it! cheers!

Have you ever tried Glenmorangie..this is a fabulous scotch!

Yes, Laphroaig is just so distinctive that other single malts seem tame by comparison-but the smoky aroma and flavour is not for everyone-when my wife tasted it, I have never seen such a face!

Bowmore Jr. it is.. I agree. Great comments
thanks for the post.

I was also drawn to this by the price, so I checked it out. Like many others, I’m convinced that this is a very young Bowmore. It has a very similar nose. Yes, it’s kind of leathery, but there is a weird perfume thing going on. To me, it’s like cardboard with faint bubblegum.
Anyway, taste something like Bowmore 12 after this one. You’ll find eerie similarities, and after doing so, I want to call this “Bowmore Jr.”

I am with you. The one I have does not state an age and I have come to find it is very young 4 to 8 years so it has not had time to mature hence that hard to place taste. And true once you have tried the Lahproaig or others like it. you can get spoiled. But that is the beauty of scotch they all offer something different. I try to be non bias and enjoy it for what that distillary has done.

i think i have a problem, and my problem is that after you’ve tasted lahproaig (any of them) nothing seems to be good enough or reach your standards, that doesn’t mean that there are not better whiskies out there, it’s just that you’ve acquaired a specific taste for scotch that’s hard to change or beat.i’m gonna need to work on that to be able to keep enjoying good scotches

it still has this weird aftertaste like perfum or cologne fake sweetness i dont know how to describe it but i’m sure you can taste it, it’s not but bad but you can still tell that it’s not the real thing..are u with me?

hey tom, i’m not sure if you’re tasting the 12yrs?, very affordable, really nice on the nose(reminding of an islay peaty scotch) but it’s actually a speyside inexpensive scotch) making an “islay type” whisky but still a little bit “plastic” or i must say “copylike” but definitely not authentic,

The McClelland whiskies are only aged 5 years, I think they are primarily designed as good starting points for someone looking to get into single malts. It’s a good foray in, but for someone who truly appreciates a good scotch you won’t want to stick with it for long. I personally don’t think that this McClelland tastes anything like the typical Islays like Lagavulin, peaty as can be

I like the unique flavor of this single malt. Was on special at local North Carolina ABC store. Nice sippin whisky. New leather, maybe so. I’m a Scot – Murray Clan.
If you like water in it, start with a cube of ice and wait til it’s about melted.

This scotch really surprised me. Drank some last night and was very surprised at how smooth and sweet it was. Smell is incredible.

This scotch gives new meaning to smoking whiskey;it does have the leather smell with dried apple and raisin undertone’s but in my opinion it’s unpleasant,it has a wet cigarette taste and has a tobacco bite at the back of the tongue and upper throat,I’m not a smoker so it’s a real turn off.I wonder if their processing this whiskey with tobacco leave’s somehow because it really does have a tobacco essence.

The best part of this review is give me back my bullets playing in the background no offense but I just love that song.I bought a bottle of this today to try tonight, thanx for the info.

I wasn’t thrilled with this whisky but I DARE you to try the Highland. It’s undrinkable. That bottle stays in the cabinet until someone I hate happens to be at my house. This distiller just seems gimmicky. They don’t give much info on the bottle or on the site and I hate that they make a whisky for each region (without actually being in that region)

Very solid cheap scotch. Probably the best bang for your buck when it comes to Islay whisky.
September 5th, 2010 at %I:%M %p
I’ll have to try them sometime, which one of the three seems to be the best??
September 5th, 2010 at %I:%M %p
Very affordable in VA.

@TheManInTheMasks
McLellands is 5 years old. I still like it though. It’s pretty smooth for such a young scotch.
September 5th, 2010 at %I:%M %p
What this seems to help reinforce is the fact that the older the scotch gets, the lower the “bang for the buck”…
did they say how old it was??, I am assuming they don’t for such a low price tag???
