I think it’s fair to say “Alright, but what if Thor is really the only god?”

    Move along poe.

  2. richter_8_6 Says:

A theist who believes that an omnipotent, omniscient deity would somehow be fooled by lip-service belief needs to go play in traffic.

Pascal’s wager has been disproven numerous times – multiple times on these boards, by me.

  3. irk.some Says:

Personally, I’d put MY money on Lord Vishnu; he’s WAY older than that poxy upstart Xian god.

  4. Dude Says:

Yes and it would mean that they are following pascals wager.

  5. Desiree Says:

Yeah, coward. It’s also very stupid because the Christian god is just as likely to be real as anything imaginary.

  6. Hi Says:

Omg your wrong, it turns out… the Romans were the right ones!!!

  7. D.J.T Says:

They might die see and Zeus.

  8. Kitty Says:

I think it’s a bit cowardly. But i suppose you’ll be the one’s laughing if there really is a God. Maybe it’s just playing safe.
    Either way, i’m buggered lol.
    xx

  9. Grant Says:

But how would you know which god? Most of them say they damn the nonbelievers of that god to a nasty afterlife. If you go with one, you’d still be making a thousand others mad.

  10. Daily Affirmations w/ Dead Fundie Says:

They no more choose what they believe than you.

  11. Winter Glory Says:

It proves that Christians have doubts about the existance of a “God” and that doubt scares the crap outta them!!!

  12. Marc Says:

if their God is omnipresent and omniscient, it is illogical to think that he wouldn’t be on to their scheme. in fact, i wouldn’t be surprised if their God preferred Atheists to liars.

it is a very very poor argument.

  13. piru_locopu5 Says:

    Yes, it is.
Going to church and praying does not make you a christian- standing in your garage will not make you a car.

True Christians do not shame other religions or beliefs.

Its not up to us to decide.

  14. A is for Atheist Says:

Yes, and what if Zeus is the ONLY true god?……lol. I bet the Greeks are having a great time right now…..

  15. demonkin.otherkin666 Says:

Christians say that a lot, they tend to forget about us Pagans. Probably because the idea of hell was taken from us to begin with.

  16. Athiest Says:

Then your just wasting your life. BTW if what the bible says is true than 99.9% of people will go to hell. The only ones that will go to heaven are Priests and other Christian religious figures who are truly without sin.

  17. Lyssa88 Says:

I wouldn’t call it being a coward per se. I think if this is your only motive for following Christ’s teachings, you have the wrong motive. We are supposed to be Christ-like. Christ was never self serving. By going along with Christianity only because YOU want to be heaven is a complete contradiction of what Christ teaches. You should do it because what Christ sacrificed for you, because God made you and He loves you, not for yourself. Yes, heaven is something we will always focus on and long for, but only because it means we will eternally be with our Lord.

  18. bLuEs_are still_bLuE Says:

Not only is it cowardly, but it’s also impossible. I’m guessing you haven’t heard of “Pascal’s Wager”. Basically it goes like: I’ll believe in god since if he’s real, i’ll get rewarded, but there’s no rewards if he’s not real and i don’t believe in him.” THE HUGE PROBLEM with this is that you can’t force yourself to believe something “just in case”. I can swear on a stack of bibles and go to church on sundays, but none of that will make me believe something if i DON’T.

  19. ladyren Says:

Most Christians don’t say this. They really believe in a sky daddy, in a real place of heaven, all with no proof. (“God said it, I believe it, that settles it…!!!”)

To them, if and when they do say it, they really don’t believe that they are deciding to believe. They really do believe this stuff.

    Have a conversation with a fundamentalist Christian sometime… it’s a head slammer.

  20. Vicky Says:

The major flaws in that argument are
Which God do you choose; there are lots
Religion is dangerous, you will be hard pushed to name one conflict that did not involve one God or another
If you have chosen the wrong God the right one will be slightly peed off with you
Should you also believe in other mythical creatures like unicorns, fairies, ghosts and ghouls as they are equally as evidenced.

  21. mizpahstone Says:

PART OF YOUR SALVATION IS KNOWING GOD AND HAVING FAITH IN HIM….SO EVEN YOU PRAY ALOT TO THE GOD THAT YOU DONT BELIEVE AND NOT SURE IF HE EXIST YOU STILL END UP ON HELL…THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HALF BAKE CHRISTIAN…..

KNOWING THE TRUE GOD IS ESSENTIAL TO YOUR SALVATION…PRAYER IS GOOD, BUT IS THAT THE ONLY THING THAT GOD WANTS YOU TO DO? YOU HAVE TO KNOW GOD, THE TRUE GOD….

  22. JOExHIGASHI Says:

    It actually makes little sense.

They don’t consider the possibility that god hates theists.

  23. DueInDecemberx Says:

I’d rather live a life of freedom and make my own decisions. If I go to hell then at least it’ll have been a life well lived with no limitations.

If you have been religious all your life then you have never lived.

  24. Lexi Says:

I’m an atheist. I go through life just being the very best person I can possibly be. I try to be kind, honest, hard-working, brave. Being “the very best person I can be” doesn’t involve going to Church, praying or even believing in a God. But if there IS a God, I hope he will see that I have tried to be a good person and won’t punish me for not following any particular religion and its rules. Because I think any God worth believing in would want us to enjoy His world, not fear it.

That’s just the way I see it!
